Huge remakes in Bollywood in 2012

From 'Players', 'Agneepath', 'Rowdy Rathore', 'Son of Sardar' to 'Chashme Buddoor', 2012 will see a string of remakes in 2012.

Bollywood has been remaking films since times immemorial but off-late filmmakers are opting for official remakes over blatant plagiarism.Ghajini, Wanted, Ready, Bodyguard just ascertain the fact. The year 2012 kick-starts with an official remake - Players and there are many more of them in store. We list down the most prominent remakes in 2012 analyzing 'what's new', 'what's retained' and the 'remake history' or each.


Players
Remake of: The Italian Job (1969)
After making a career out of unofficially remaking foreign films, director-duo Abbas Mustan are making their first official remake by adapting The Italian Job in Indian milieu.
What's new: The setting is new - New Zealand. There will be the customary Bollywood song-n-dance between the big heist. The actors are trying hard to be cool. 
What's retained: With the official rights being purchased, of course the entire heist sequence should be the same.
Remake history: The 1969 Michael Caine-Noel Coward flick was remade in 2003 with Mark Wahlberg and Edward Norton.


Agneepath
Remake of: Agneepath (1990)
Karan Johar chose Hrithik Roshan over Abhishek Bachchan while remaking his home banner's Agneepath starring Amitabh Bachchan, which is considered cult cinema despite being a box-office dud. 
What's new: Mithun Chakravarthy's award-winning supporting character is chopped off in the remake. Instead a new character of Rishi Kapoor is introduced who plays the most mean and menacing role of his life. Sanjay Dutt's Kancha Cheena goes bald. And there's Katrina Kaif who scorches the screen with Chikni Chameli (again remake of a Marathi song).
What's retained: This official remake claims to derive very little from the original other than basic elements (ironically unofficial remakes are copying more from the original ones).
Remake history: Mukul Anand's 1990 film was heavily inspired by Al Pacino's 'Scarface (1983) and seemingly Hrithik Roshan's version seems more close to the original with claims that Duggu dear pays homage to Pacino. Interestingly even Hollywood plans to remake Scarface sometime soon.

Director Karan Johar tweeted about the trailer launch on a micro blogging site. The promotional teaser of the film was released in theatres with the much anticipated movie Don 2 starring Shahrukh Khan.

Looking at the hype and the activities on the official social media properties of Agneepath, there is an extremely positive vibe for the film.

On Thursday, Karan Johar Tweeted: “Will upload the new theatrical promo of AGNEEPATH 2mor...” Considering the massive response received on the ‘Chikni Chameli’ item song, the response for the second theatrical is expected to be phenomenal.

With Independence Day celebrations around the corner, the judges and contestants of dance reality show Just Dance didn't want to be left behind. While the contestants gave some enthralling performances on the patriotic theme, superstar Hrithik Roshan gave everyone a meaningful gift.

Hrithik, who supported a typical Indian look, presented his fellow judges and the contestants with the tri-coloured flag. Not only this, the actor went up to each and every contestant, and personally fixed the Indian flag on their shoulder. Everyone was overwhelmed with this special gesture. So sweet

Hrithik Feels Gud For ZNMD!!!!

Mumbai, Aug. 15 -- Hrithik Roshan is overwhelmed by the response to his latest release, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD). He admits he did Zoya Akhtar's movie only for the love of 'pure cinema' since nothing in it had a commercial reference point.

"What I like best about Zoya is that she has an open mind and refuses to conform. She doesn't follow the herd, but tries to figure out something new and refreshing," he points out. "When she came to me with ZNMD, I thought if I could use my star status to play one of the boys, I might pass on the vision to other aspiring filmmakers.

Its success has reaffirmed my belief that you should always follow your heart." The actor is open to the idea of a sequel too. "I even have an idea for it," Hrithik admits. "It would be set five-six years from now. Arjun (Hrithik), Imran (Farhan Akhtar) and Kabir (Abhay Deol) are older, evolved and have settled down. They're in a different stage in their lives and in a different state of mind. But there are new problems and a reason to go off on another trip together." So, will Arjun, the stockbroker, do a "Moshi moshi?" in Part 2 too? "Maybe, since it's become such a catchphrase," he smiles. "But Arjun is lucky that thanks to Laila (Katrina Kaif), he's broken out of the box and learnt to live life to the fullest."

Hrithik claims that as an actor, he has never got stuck with a particular image or been identified with a certain kind of cinema. "Every film I do is not a Krrish (2006) or a Dhoom 2 (2006)," he reasons. "I've experimented with a Koi... Mil Gaya (2003), a Guzaarish (2010) and now a ZNMD, and the gambles have paid off."

Before the release, when Zoya was asked if she was planning a sequel, she'd said it had taken her to two years to put the film together. "I need a break to step back and look at the film objectively; if I feel we can take the story forward and if I can get the script right. A lot will also depend on how ZNMD fares commercially."

The box-office has gone 'mantal'. So may be there's a chance the 'bwayz' will be back!
